StreamRipper - Getting Those MP3 Files From An Internet Stream. Linux.

greg_head_normal By Greg Sayle

I have been listening to streaming music from Digitally Imported via Jajuk. There were a number of tracks which I had not heard before and I thought I would like a copy of them for myself to listen to whenever I wanted to.

Jajuk is the jukebox I use to listen to all my music I have stored on my USB drive and streaming music from the Internet.

I installed a copy of StreamRipper which rips a copy of the radio stream into separate MP3 files.

You can install a copy of both StreamRipper and StreamTuner from the software manager which comes with your version of Linux. Currently I am using Linux Mint.

Installation from the source file : configure, make, make install.

Run the following command from your terminal to start ripping : streamripper http://yourstreamingwebsite.com/media

There is also a GUI for Streamripper called Streamtuner which can be installed.

Streamripper website :

http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/

Streamtuner website :

http://www.nongnu.org/streamtuner/

Explanation:
streamripper is the command next is the actual url of the stream you are going to rip/record.
-d tells streamripper which directory on your system to put the recording into.
-a is the file name, if you want just one file name for the entire recording.
