Install Darktable On Ubuntu To Manage Digital Negatives and Raw Images

Over View

Darktable is a photography workflow software that allows photographers to mange raw images and digital negatives via a virtual lighttable and darkroom interface.

Install the Darktable photo workflow software on Ubuntu 10.04/10.10/11.04.

So, launch the terminal and issue these commands to install Darktable on Ubuntu:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmjdebruijn/darktable-release

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install darktable

WEBSITE

After the install process is finished you will have Darktable listed as an icon in your graphics menu.

I must also mention I am running Linux Mint 9 "Isadora" LTS.

The install process went smoothly with no glitches. Darktable fired up, all good.

Now, I am just a digital photographic amatuer, however this programe has some much going for it in terms of features.

In the bottom right hand corner of the Darktable screen is some text which says more plugins. By clicking on the text a panel opens with a number of icons which allow the user to make some serious changes to the image which is loaded.

Clicking on the color zones icon will pop open another panel which will allow you to deal with various color features such as lightness, saturation and hue. By moving the centre line up or down in the panel creates changes to the image you have loaded.

Darktable has too many features to discuss in this article. But, if you want to do some image editing this is the programe to use in Linux in my opinion.
